We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Food & Nutrition Teacher to join our specialist team, delivering engaging and meaningful learning experiences for pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN). This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced teacher or someone with a strong interest in SEN education to inspire young people, build their confidence and equip them with essential skills for life.

As our Food & Nutrition Teacher, you will deliver creative and inclusive lessons that encourage pupils to develop practical cookery skills, nutritional understanding and healthy lifestyle habits.
You will adapt learning to meet individual needs, ensuring every pupil can access the curriculum, experience success and make measurable progress towards their EHCP outcomes.
Working as part of a supportive and multidisciplinary team, you will collaborate closely with families, Learning Support Assistants and external professionals to create personalised learning experiences that help every child reach their full potential.
What You'll Be Doing
• Deliver engaging, practical Food & Nutrition lessons that inspire and motivate learners.
• Plan and adapt learning to meet individual pupil needs and EHCP targets.
• Develop pupils' confidence, independence and life skills through hands-on learning.
• Monitor, assess and celebrate pupil progress.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to annual reviews and reporting processes.
• Create a positive, nurturing and safe learning environment where pupils can thrive.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, families and external agencies to support pupil outcomes.
• Contribute to the wider life of the school, including tutor responsibilities, enrichment activities and professional development opportunities.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who brings enthusiasm, creativity and a genuine commitment to inclusive education.
You will have:
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Experience teaching Food & Nutrition at secondary level.
• Experience working with pupils with SEN, or a strong desire to develop your expertise in this area.
• The ability to adapt teaching to meet a wide range of learning needs.
• Excellent classroom practice, assessment and differentiation skills.
• Strong behaviour management and relationship-building abilities.
• A commitment to achieving the very best outcomes for every pupil.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, families and professionals.
• Knowledge of EHCP processes and target setting (desirable).
Desirable Experience
Applications are particularly welcomed from candidates with experience supporting pupils with:
• Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
• ADHD
• Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
Additional training or qualifications in SEN-related areas such as autism, ADHD or dyslexia would be advantageous.
Requirements
We are looking for a candidate who can bring energy, commitment and a genuine passion for inclusive education. The ideal applicant will have:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Recent and successful experience of, or a strong interest in, teaching pupils with special educational needs
Experience adapting teaching to meet individual learning needs
Strong understanding of effective teaching, learning and assessment practices
Ability to differentiate and personalise learning effectively
Effective behaviour management skills and the ability to create a safe, positive learning environment
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues
Knowledge of EHCP processes and the ability to contribute to review and target-setting processes
Commitment to safeguarding, equality, confidentiality and high standards of pupil achievement
Additional Requirements
Minimum GCSE grade 4 (or equivalent) in English and Maths
Experience working with children with autism, SEMH and ADHD is preferred
Training in SEN areas such as ADHD, dyslexia or autism is advantageous
A valid driving licence is required
Key Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality, adapted teaching and learning for pupils with special educational needs
Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned to individual needs and EHCP outcomes
Use assessment information to track progress, inform planning and support target-setting
Maintain accurate records and contribute to progress reporting and annual reviews
Work collaboratively with Learning Support Assistants, colleagues, parents and external professionals
Promote positive behaviour, wellbeing, attendance and engagement in school life
Contribute to the wider life of the school, including tutor responsibilities, pastoral support and CPD

Yarrow Heights School is a mixed 7-19, local authority funded, SEN day school for children, most of who are able learners with an EHCP and a diagnosis with ASC and associated needs.
